FAQ

What does the word Reiki mean?

The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning
universal, and “ki,” meaning life energy. Reiki is Universal life
energy.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a non-invasive modality of energy healing that may be used
alongside conventional medicine to support overall health and wellness.
Reiki’s aim is to treat the whole person in the sense of physical and
emotional aspects pertaining to health.

Is Reiki a religion?

Reiki is not a religion. It is a spiritual and non-religious energy healing
practice, and does not require any specific belief system to work.

What is an in-person Reiki session?

Recipients remain fully-clothed, usually lying face-up, on a massage
table. Practitioners place their hands lightly on or just above the body in
about 12-15 different places on the body, typically holding each placement
for 3-5 minutes. Reiki moves into the Practitioner and out through her
hands into the recipient.

How long does a Reiki session last?

Typically, a Reiki session will last one hour.

How many Reiki sessions should I have?

While there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, the bottom
line is that the number of Reiki sessions you need depends on your
unique circumstances and health goals. Perhaps it is best to start with a
few sessions and then work with your Practitioner to reassess your needs
from there.

What is a distance Reiki session?

A distance Reiki session is a form of energy healing where the
Practitioner sends Universal life force energy to a recipient located
elsewhere. Distance Reiki sessions tend to last about 15-30 minutes.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

Reiki helps with stress, anxiety, pain, sleep issues, etc., and works well
with conventional medicine. There are no known contraindications with
the use of Reiki.

What does Reiki feel like for the recipient?

Reiki is experiential … each person’s experience is their own and may
vary from other recipients’ experiences. Many feel tingling, deep
relaxation, a sense of calm, peace and security. Some may see colors
and/or feel coolness or heat. Some may experience vibrations within the
body, or may feel like they are floating while others may fall asleep. Some
recipients feel an emotional lightness and clarity.

To be honest, there are a few recipients of Reiki that feel nothing at all;
however, they generally do feel better after the Reiki session.

What is a Reiki Master Practitioner?

Master means Teacher, nothing more.

That being said, a Reiki Master Practitioner is one who has been
attuned to all three levels of Reiki (physical, mental/emotional,
spiritual), is currently offering Reiki sessions and is teaching Reiki.

How do I become a Reiki Practitioner?

Before you begin your journey toward becoming a Reiki Practitioner,
you should first have at least one Reiki session. This will tell you how Reiki feels
in your own body and will give you an idea of how you may be in service with this modality for others. Then, you must complete required coursework, practicum and be attuned to Reiki by a Reiki Master Practitioner.
